The best parts
I never had to ask for it or apply. I was personally invited the first time, and I was asked to keep it up each time my contract ran out.It's a paid position, and I can work from home (i.e. wherever and whenever suits me), both pretty rare traits of internships.Okay, just kidding. I was inspired to create this series by naikki while looking through her gallery of diverse artwork and reading through her journals which are focused on her favorite inspiring writers and thinkers. I felt certain there must be beautiful artwork in the form of portraits and tributes to these writers and their stories. I found most of naikki's choices of quotes to be inclusionary, redeeming and welcoming to any artist on their own path. Instead of just crediting naikki with the inspiration for this new series on depthRADIUS, I also invited her to provide a quote about Herman Hesse of her own to kick off this series.

This article, I'll tell you how you can add an author's avatar into your journals that the gruze skin will automatically generate! Initially, I was going for a more difficult approach (which is why I separated the two articles) but I figured out a MUCH simpler way to code in the avatars!

Dollar ChangerDollar Changer
Because the dollar changer
   repeatedly rejected
   my scrabby bill initially,
I thought it intentionally
   withheld a dime,
   the excuse being,
Due to its condition,
   the dollar had depreciated
   by ten cents.
But, in fact,
   that dime jumped
   the change return rail,
Wobbling out of my sight.

first meetings - for rainyEiffel looked around New Rome, the map the praetor gave her being less the helpful. Jason had been nice, but she was completely lost. Demigods milled around the stores and cafes, legacies eating with their families, the lares floating wherever they wanted. She suppressed a shiver and steered clear of the ghostly figures, bumping into someone as she avoided the ghosts.
“Oh, sorry,” she said, looking up at the girl she'd bumped into. Eiffel bit her lip as she met the girl's brown eyes, blonde curls tumbling out of a messy ponytail, her arms bared with a white tank top on. The red-haired girl felt her mouth go dry.
The blonde shrugged, smiling at Eiffel and brushed imaginary dirt off her stomach. “Hey, no worries. You must be new to New Rome,” the girl said, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “I'm Saffron, daughter of Vulcan, legacy of Pomona,”
Eiffel smiled nervously, shifting on her feet slightly. “I'm uh, Eiffel,” she said, winci need some Time part IThe first time she sees him, he's lying in the hospital bed across from her with an IV up his arm and tears on his face.
"What're you in here for?" she asks, and he blinks, wiping his eyes.
"Heartbreak," he murmurs, gesturing to the IV. "They say the best cure is Time, so they're pumping me hours and days right now."
She nods understandingly, and adjusts her bed so she can see him clearer. "I've been here a couple times for heartbreak," she admits, tugging on her hair. "More times then I'd like to admit, so y'know, I'm probably a lot older then I look," she laughs and he bites his lip.
"What are you here for this time?" he asks, looking around at the others in the room. He guesses they're all here for the same reason.
"Grief," she admits, "I've been here a while actually," she murmurs, and then they're silent for a long time.
The days pass slowly.
The doctors have upped his dosage of Time to weeks, and he thinks he feels better, but the hole in his heart is still there. She's still gri
