Philippe for Philippe

This image is dedicated to my very dear friend Philippe who is a constant support to me in many ways.

In this image, the cat named Philippe, who I NEVER thought I would end up adopting is inspecting my pen, in HIS pen on the evening before we came back to adopt him.

This was taken October 15th, and he was adopted October 16th, and this is his debut image here on dA.

I first got to know him since last MARCH 2010 at The Shelter where I volunteer, but his name was not Philippe then.

Since the beginning, he'd been an absolute LOVE of an ALL black cat, with a pipe-cleaner of a tail that twists right at the end. He's so shiny black that he's blue! Tim Burton, the movie producer, could have created him!

By end of Summer, with NO ONE having shown remote interest, I had moved him to a more visible location at The Shelter, so that he might gain more exposure by the public.

It was at this point that I started calling him "Philippe"
just because Philippe of *philippeL had just been the first person [and male, since this cat is also male] to show support, through a purchase of prints that went toward, The Shelter Project and of course I was so grateful. And since he was a friend of mine, too, and I know he especially loves and has black cats of his OWN, it just so happened that I began to call this cat Philippe after Philippe!
And it caught on with the others there...

But, October came...

In many MANY areas, like the one where I live, black cats already have a VERY tough time as it is, MORE than cats in general, getting adopted...

It also talks about how they don't get adopted all year, and more than any other cat, they are euthanized, but when October comes, there is a rise in black cat adoptions purely in order to do harm to them, for Halloween purposes, etc.

So, at my Shelter, I asked about "Philippe" and no one had EVER even shown any interest in him since March of being there, and it was mid-October, already, and I was afraid for him two weeks before Halloween.

Thus, came the decision to adopt Philippe, and we ended up with our own all-black cat whose name was already changed to Philippe in the Summer. It was not intended that I would have him, but there you go. And yes my *friend* Philippe has known this, since then

But truly, we are full up, and it is "Jikan's Pride" or "The Lucky Seven" [and one dog] as there is just no way we can take more, at this point.
