:iconwhiteflowerplz: PERSONAL MESSAGE :iconwhiteflowerplz:

I got back near the beginning of May from being gone about all of April, to see most of my family (an annual thing only) in Tucson, Arizona. I was not able to check dA at all while I was away.

The trip was good generally speaking, but also... interesting giving me food for thought- as these things do tend to, but the older I get I think more and more about such visits and what transpires, etc. I tend to feel overwhelmed- not always in a bad way, but... for one example, while I am grateful for the time I get to spend with my nieces, it does get more and more difficult each time I have to leave them. I'm lucky I've been able to be as close with them as I am, given the physical distance all their lives, and the rare frequency I do see them. The best thing about my brother and his wife, is that they do "keep me alive to them" during the large time/space that we are not actually together. This means A LOT to me, since... I cannot even describe to you how much they mean to me...

But they are getting older, and I worry about those preteen/teen years... I just want to manage to stay close to them... somehow.

While there, there were a few really cool moments/days that stood out:

:bulletorange: For my 10 year old niece's B-DAY, I had arranged that my brother's family and I go out to a ranch on the outskirts of town- something *not* touristy or at least that didn't seem so- actually because they do private escorts, and we got to do "educational horseback riding" for a day!
Just so you know, some of us were more experienced with this than others, but we all got the same lessons which was great! :)
What this entailed, was that we each had our own horse, including my 10 and 7 year old niece! (It was my 7 year old niece's first time interacting with a horse at all!) Each horse was paired with us based on our experience and other attributes.  We each brushed our horses, and were shown how to carefully walk by and around our horses, what kind of knot to use on their ropes when tying them up, how to saddle and bridle our horses, ALL before we ever even mounted our horses! :la:
Then we were shown basic lessons on how to sit in our saddle and how to use our reins... :D

We had two wranglers with our group of five: my brother, sis-in-law, my two nieces, and me. I was 2nd behind the first wrangler... we were strategically ordered. It took us quite a while to get all of us out of area's driveway... :giggle: Oh boy!! :ohmygod:  But hey, that's okay! My younger niece, was SUCH a sport! Once we all got out, it really went quite well- a few small snags, and getting out of order... but it was a beautiful:heart: ride through the desert- TWO and half hours! I kid you not, though it was not actually supposed to take that long. ;) My younger niece would periodically shout: "I'M A COWGIRL!" :giggle:

When we got back, we were NOT done yet, nope- by then my nieces were a bit antsy, but we had to follow through with the responsibility of our horses, leading them to their water, taking care of the equipment in reverse, dusting off and washing the horses, etc.

I had been wanting for so long to go horse back riding again- since before even moving to Oregon... I kept going to a place I used to go to, but the last two times, it just didn't work out. :hmm:

I still haven't arranged it HERE, BUT at least I arranged it for my 10 year old niece's birthday- we ALL seriously had a most wonderful time.

:bulletorange: Another thing, was the beautiful experience of the baby HOUSE FINCHES!! :la:
Details inside the image:

 MA-MA by TeaPhotography

When I finally returned home...

:bulletpurple: One immediate thing was my health began to worsen, yet again. I don't really talk about the details of my health, and especially publicly like this- just to say, that my health is never good. It takes my everything to keep my nose above the waterline, just so I can "breathe"- THAT is my... "normal".
And from there, I often falter and go through bouts of decline-- and I have so much trouble to really be able to do anything at all. All I really can or should be doing is sleeping or waiting it out, even if it feels like I'll never improve.  I usually do, but it's very much so, an up(ish) and down kind of thing.

It's very frustrating when your WILL is to be so active. :hmm:

Anyway, I felt extra overwhelmed and depressed than usual this time around...

:bulletpurple: but, on the 3rd day back, I found two bird eggs in our lawn... (we have two HUGE old evergreens next to our house, and I think they are home to the most variety of our birds!)... and it had been so windy when I got home, and I think they had just fallen... one was badly cracked, so um... yeah. :hmm:
The other was still warm!

I hurried to make some sort of incubator in my art studio... I couldn't tell what kind of bird from the egg alone, but surprisingly two days later it did hatch- I was there when it happened- and it took about 30 minutes or so, but we finally identified it as a baby pigeon, but as this being the case, and just figuring it out, we were behind the game... :hmm:

There is a milky substance (not really milk) that it MUST have in the first 3 days from the mother only... and unless we had some sort of specialty feed store that had mixes for various birds-- which we so do NOT, and we were not prepared by having found one or ordered some, and just living in an isolated area... well, I did prepare emergency food and fed him like I learned from the internet tutorial videos, and all that worked fine, but these emergency foods were really for *after* the 3 days were over, so... I kind of knew it wasn't going to work... and yes the inevitable happened..

I was indeed truly sad- but I didn't know what else I could have done in the situation... I did learn TONS about pigeons... etc. We made a really nice little burial & ceremony etc.- had given him a name etc.

I believed he deserved all that for what he'd been through-

:bulletpurple: And then a few days after THAT, I was handed a 3 day old kitten, rejected by its mother... :faint:

I honestly was very unsure at that point, given everything. I had fostered and taken in kittens as young as 3 weeks, but never younger, and my anxiety levels were really high by then, and I was simply physically unwell.

YET, I knew that it was obvious that we were more prepared for and knowledgeable about kittens/cats at any stage of their lives.

The kitten has just turned 4 weeks... I have taken photos, but I've yet to share any, just cause I felt like waiting a bit longer to do that. ... :aww:

He's had a few ups and downs, which is to be expected, an eye infection before his eyes even opened, some had digestive issues,  and remains on the small side for his age, BUT over all, he's doing okay. *knock on wood* ;) (Yes, I'm just a tad superstitious. :XD: )

When, I DO upload a photo, I will tell his name etc.

But, taking this kitten, made for me the commitment to night-shift feedings, every 2 hours at first, and now we've *just* moved to every 3-4 hours... :aww:

Admittedly, this did NOT help my medical issues at all, in the physical ways, but after a while, it did begin to improve my mental state. Yay! :D

:bulletpurple: Meanwhile, I had a lot of projects, due dates, and deadlines to tend to, and not just here  on dA, but I mean with work in LIFE!

ONE of those being, MY FIRST FUNDRAISER coming up! (SAT. JUNE 14th) :la: :faint:

It's LESSSS than TWO weeks away, and we *just* started the local advertising!
It's really my fault, because I only just finished the flyer! :ohmygod:

I've been trying to send it PDF to local people I can think of via EMAIL, but what I really need to do, is get to local businesses to post in their windows, etc.

My friend and "local mom" Stormy did some of that for me yesterday.

It's kind of difficult when I don't have my own car, but I've got to figure this out by/on THURSDAY!

My orders from dA and VistaPrints should start to arrive tomorrow and all this week... so it will be time to start framing prints, pricing them, and the jewelry, the mugs, the stickers, magnets, etc., and getting it all organized.

I guess at this point, I really just wish I could feel better... cause things are just happening around me. I am not and do NOT want to complain about those things- because just cause they are busy things, they are GOOD things!!! :la: :rose:

I just wish I was well, and felt good- to match the active life that I want.
... yet that's really nothing new... in essence, it's how it's always been.

:iconcatearsplz: News From "The Shelter Project" :iconcatearsplz:

:bulletblack:
The South Coast Humane Society here, on the SW Coast of Oregon continues to keep me very busy...
I do all the photo shoots of the animals for Adoptions for the "Adopt-a-Pet" sections of the areas' newspapers, plus I edit the photos for our page at Petfinder.com. Many of those also go up on our FB page, too, and THEN I share a very FEW, of these same photos with you here on dA!

:bulletblack:
I also foster cats from time to time, work with AND have a couple of my own ferals who live on my back porch, work with mostly the sick dogs and cats, and work on socializing animals all after hours at the humane society, plus I have my OWN clan (seriously, it IS a CLAN) of rescued indoor cats, and two rescued dogs, too. :XD:

:bulletblack:
I've also been getting more into the selling of my various types of art works at local fundraising events on behalf of "The Shelter Project"- which just like ONLINE, goes to the same animals in need. However, as has been the case, due to my financial situation, I am not able to provide most of these products, which is where my own gracious, generous, compassionate, and understanding donors have come in!
I purchase from VistaPrints and from deviantART, in order to round out the variety I need.

To date, I want to thank the all the gracious, generous, compassionate, and understanding individuals who have donated :points: points: @ teaphotography.deviantart.com/
I am absolutely delighted, and so grateful... :happycry:
I mean when I think of the potential we have now, together, to raise the funds for the animals in need, through "The Shelter Project" with these events this Summer,
seeing these first amazing and generous donors, have really brought me hope!

:note: The Points Widget has been ZERO'd out, and UPDATED, and you can read about WHY, there:

:bulletgreen: The "Tea Photography OPEN HOUSE on behalf of THE SHELTER PROJECT" :excited:

This WILL take place JUNE 14th, less than TWO weeks away... we've begun advertising on our FB page, which I am not in charge of, in our newsletter, and advertised right at our shelter, and I have made my flyer, and I will be sending it by PDF to local repeat customers, local friends, and taking them to local businesses. I am quite behind with all of these things, but... I'm doing the very best I can with everything going on... :aww:

It will be held right at the humane society...  I am very excited, but also nervous! I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time, but to be the only artisan, is a bit scary. I just hope that since I've lived here for over three years now, I might know enough people to make it decently successful. :fingerscrossed:

:new: It looks like I will likely be added to an event in the community, through the humane society, and appear in our booth at THE KITE FESTIVAL. So I'll be doing more than I originally thought. I will try to have all of the same types of products.

:bulletgreen: And Finally, one SHORT month thereafter, I have the annual "Mutt-Strutt" anyway that's the humane society's BIGGEST annual fundraiser event! This will be my 4th time to participate in this event.

I would really hope to have lots more variety of products for this event this year anyway... - and STILL whatever might not sell, there will continue to BE opportunities to sell the products at future events, AND inside the shelter's lobby, itself.

At all of these events, I would have as much variety of my jewelry products available, and pre-made photo greeting cards...

:note: Plus I order 11x14 prints, mostly of shelter animals, (which I do the framing myself, to save money, but thanks to other donors!), and also mugs and magnets- all ordered from dA.  Stickers, hats, & pens, of shelter animals or The Shelter Project logo, I order from VistaPrints with the help of other donors, via PayPal.

So this is basically it, up front! I want you to know what is going on!

Again, I want to thank you for your understanding of my changed financial situation, in the last few years of my life... it's never easy to admit such things... but it's nice to know a team can actually work together on an important cause.

So, anyway, as you can see I am already actively in the middle of collecting, and purchasing products, and collecting more points to prepare for THESE *SUMMER* Fundraising EVENTS, you see. :aww:

Thank you for letting me share.

AND, thank you again to those who have already donated, AND thanks so much in advance to those who may decide to donate to this cause!!

Old FriendsThe visit happened suddenly, and to her complete nonsurprise.
She had been typing up a report on various South Asian butterflies when he had simply appeared in her room, as casually as if they had agreed beforehand to meet there. “Hello,” he said calmly from the doorway. “Don’t mind me.”
“Hello there,” she replied, just as casually. “You’re always welcome here.” She didn’t bother turning around, knowing that, at her age, she would no longer be able to see him. She was aware that she was far beyond the age where visitations by imaginary friends, however beloved when younger, were considered acceptable. But she was about as bothered as she was surprised.
“It’s been a while since I last visited,” she heard him say mildly as he walked around the room, just out of her sight.
“It has,” she agreed. “Sorry, I don’t think there’s another chair here.”
“It’s all righ

ShimmerI have a number of friends, two of which are Seven and Rain.
Seven is a rock collector. He travels here and there and through every corner, dives through caves and scales waterfalls in search of rare stones. When he visits, it is always with a pack of mining tools and spelunking gear. His tools do not include a canary; I have yet to see a dust mask. Yet, when he visits, it is always in clear-throated health. (In lieu of lung disease, I asked him if he feared cave-ins instead. He said no.)
Rain is an artist. He searches fewer caves and climbs fewer waterfalls than Seven, but is nonetheless widely traveled, being a connoisseur of sweeping vistas and stately galleries. When he first visited, he asked to see the program I was coding (and at an impasse on). In response to my surprise at his interest, he said, Good code is like art in its elegance. He glanced at my code and remarked that I was missing a pointer. He was right.

Repeat business, is not even all that a few of them have done, even though that's the epitome of awesome, and is direct help. But the repeat & ongoing promotions on the Journals and Profile Pages of Philippe, Jocelyne, Cheryl, Dana, Cecelia, Sandy, and Teresa, etc. ... is phenomenal.
They have worked so hard to help promote, in addition to their purchases. I never could have imagined, not just awesome customers, but PARTNERS, throughout this whole Project.

your eyes were a hypnotic blue.

you smelled of musk and sweat -
