Yearn to Be Free

Description

I'd like to dedicate this to my dear friend Sarah :iconcowboyb0b:
for so many reasons... :aww: :rose:
but she has graduated from high school, just this past school year
and will be going away to college... soon enough here.

Sarah :iconcowboyb0b: was one of my very first friends here on dA, and we've maintained all along, and this means that I've known Sarah nearly all of her high school years, which actually kind of blows my mind! :faint: ;)

Sarah is one heck of an artist in many ways. Well, she is a great photographer to be sure, but it is her brilliant writing that has stunned me over and over, time and again.
[ which has made me forget her actual age, more than once! ]

But she's also been one really good friend and penpal, always very supportive and I wish her the best in all of the next parts of her life... for one, as she embarks on college life. :aww:

Oftentimes, we think of going off to college or moving away from home as a sort of rite of passage, a certain type of freedom we've thought of and wondered about. And that's alright, even good, as it's a part of life and moving through it... :)

In life as a whole, we usually end up encountering the fact that in various stages we are restricted by a number of things- physically or often otherwise- whether it be the systems we live in, mortgages we can't pay, illnesses difficult to overcome, etc.,

But NOT to be a downer, for as people and as ARTISTS, we CAN learn to overcome, and free ourselves. For many of us, this is through our creative outlets and endeavors, and doing kind and helpful things to make life better. By being proactive, and making choices we DO have control over.
:w00t:

I've used this song before but, it's one of my favourites, which I think of so often, and again with this poppy pulling away from the cobweb,
Likely the most famous excerpt from:

Redemption Song
Bob Marley
... Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds. ...

Cemetery Gardener Cemetery gardener
       of sun-leathered skin,
              hardened tough.
       of early mornings,
              working in the dew
of rakes leaves for three months
mows the lawns for three months,
              fixes the sprin
Length If I go home,
I will grow out my hair

Hide behind a curtain of bangs
      that cannot be drawn.
Wear a shawl of locks
      sheathing frail backbones.
A blanket to wrap myself in.

If I go home, I will grow out my hair.

Then I will shave the length off,
       because I can.

Dear Sarah,
I've already said a lot... ;) But thanks for everything...
I really mean it. You are awesome, and I mean that, too!
My very best to you!! :w00t: Talk to you more later...
Your Friend, Tea

[NOTE: I just wanted to say, in advance, how especially grateful for anyone's :+fav: I may receive for this image. :thanks::aww::rose: I am honoured that you would enjoy or think well enough of my work here, to :+fav: it. So I thank you :thanks: profusely, and from the bottom of my heart  . And because I do realize time constraints all too well, I understand, if you are unable to also leave a comment. :aww: However, whichever you may do, [or even both! :omg: ] I genuinely appreciate it beyond measure. I need you to know this now, in case I'm not capable of doing individual thank-you's for :+fav:'s, which I've not been capable, or in case I cannot respond to each comment, either. Thanks for understanding. :thanks:
 And even if you just came to view! :eyes: I am also very HAPPY :D for this! :w00t: ]
