Yay, The Beagle Made It

CONGRATULATIONS and Happy Birthday to Malori !
our family Beagle, who MADE it to 14 years old, [on October 11th] !
[she gets lots of cake, cause that's all she would care about anyway, IF she really did get cake! ]

While this one of her "ready to go walk!" was photographed around August, this was specifically done for recent photos for her BIRTHDAY, though I did get some more on the more recent Sept. trip.

A long time ago, when it seems I was still just a "kid" and I only had one dog as a pet, Canela Bella, a seemingly mix of perhaps Beagle and Terrier [probably Jack-Russel-ish or sorts]
the one that was rescued as a stray pup off the streets,

I decided that because she, Canela, needed MUCH attention, that she needed a companion, and as a very YOUNG child, the kind that lives at home during elementary school years, and one whose school had SNOOPY for a mascot, and therefore was SNOOPY obsessed ever since, decided to seek out a Beagle [the only time I've ever had a non-rescue animal in my actual "adult" on-my-own years].

But when I got to the place I found it was sort of like rescuing her, in a way, the whole litter was flea infested, and UGH, it was really a sad situation, and Malori was the runt with a bent tail at the tip, and so I had to have her.

Canela Bella who passed on at our approximation of 4 years and 4 months old, one year ago from this past September, always like people best, but Malori's favourite when we got her, was always Canela...

Since Canela's been gone for just over a year now, she's grown more needy and cuddly, but she's always been a good dog in a lot of ways, if not stubborn and with a lot of wild stories.
She's stereotypical like a cat, in the "NINE LIVES" sort of way, since she's had so many traumatic things happen to her due to her immense curiosity, and that intense Beagle nose of hers!

Like the time she got stung by a bee as a puppy, and we learned quite fast that she's deathly allergic of bees, and her whole little body swelled around her head and you could not even see her face, but amazingly we got to the vet in time to save her life, but she could have died.

And the time she got a foxtail stuck WAY up her nose so far it was bleeding and bleeding and fox tails just do NOT go the other direction at all... and hence she needed immediate surgery...

And the time she hate half of a chocolate cake, in the 30 SECONDS we turned around, [NOTE: it only takes 30 seconds for a Beagle to do such things! ] and was deathly ill soon after...

And then the worst, she ate rat poison, [don't ask, suuuper long story as to why there was even rat poison! ] and it was the weekend, no available vet, but a vet helped us save her life over the phone, as we induced vomiting ourselves with hydrogen peroxide!

Yes, well I could go on.. but, yes, NINE LIVES!

So, well, in July she has been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure- I knew she was having some different symptoms, and yet I felt so surprised by the vet's diagnosis!
Soon after she had to have A LOT of her teeth pulled due to infections in her mouth- [she struggled all her life with poor gums and teeth, despite our care of them, no people food and only dry food, but the dentist said even in animals, they get bad genes in the dental area!]

She did well with such a big surgery, and then she's on two medications with for the Congestive Heart Failure, everyday.
She seems to do a little better, for now, and so we just ENJOY EVERY MOMENT WE HAVE LEFT WITH HER!

She still loves car rides, and going on walks, very much.
And I can't believe she is so tolerant of the cats!
She really is very amazing.
