Yay, The Beagle Made It by TeaPhotography Yay, The Beagle Made It by TeaPhotography
:party: CONGRATULATIONS and Happy Birthday to Malori !
our family Beagle, who MADE it to 14 years old, [on October 11th] ! :phew:
:cake::cake::cake: [she gets lots of cake, cause that's all she would care about anyway, IF she really did get cake! ;) ]

While this one of her "ready to go walk!" was photographed around August, this was specifically done for recent photos for her BIRTHDAY, though I did get some more on the more recent Sept. trip. :aww:

A long time ago, when it seems I was still just a "kid" and I only had one dog as a pet, Canela Bella, a seemingly mix of perhaps Beagle and Terrier [probably Jack-Russel-ish or sorts]
the one that was rescued as a stray pup off the streets,

I decided that because she, Canela, needed MUCH attention, that she needed a companion, and as a very YOUNG child, the kind that lives at home during elementary school years, and one whose school had SNOOPY for a mascot, and therefore was SNOOPY obsessed ever since, decided to seek out a Beagle [the only time I've ever had a non-rescue animal in my actual "adult" on-my-own years].

But when I got to the place I found it was sort of like rescuing her, in a way, the whole litter was flea infested, and UGH, it was really a sad situation, and Malori was the runt with a bent tail at the tip, and so I had to have her.

Canela Bella who passed on at our approximation of 4 years and 4 months old, one year ago from this past September, always like people best, but Malori's favourite when we got her, was always Canela...

Since Canela's been gone for just over a year now, she's grown more needy and cuddly, but she's always been a good dog in a lot of ways, if not stubborn and with a lot of wild stories.
She's stereotypical like a cat, in the "NINE LIVES" sort of way, since she's had so many traumatic things happen to her due to her immense curiosity, and that intense Beagle nose of hers!

Like the time she got stung by a bee as a puppy, and we learned quite fast that she's deathly allergic of bees, and her whole little body swelled around her head and you could not even see her face, but amazingly we got to the vet in time to save her life, but she could have died.

And the time she got a foxtail stuck WAY up her nose so far it was bleeding and bleeding and fox tails just do NOT go the other direction at all... and hence she needed immediate surgery...

And the time she hate half of a chocolate cake, in the 30 SECONDS we turned around, [NOTE: it only takes 30 seconds for a Beagle to do such things! :faint: ] and was deathly ill soon after...

And then the worst, she ate rat poison, [don't ask, suuuper long story as to why there was even rat poison! :( ] and it was the weekend, no available vet, but a vet helped us save her life over the phone, as we induced vomiting ourselves with hydrogen peroxide! :no:

Yes, well I could go on.. but, yes, NINE LIVES! :nod:

So, well, in July she has been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure- I knew she was having some different symptoms, and yet I felt so surprised by the vet's diagnosis! :sniff:
Soon after she had to have A LOT of her teeth pulled due to infections in her mouth- [she struggled all her life with poor gums and teeth, despite our care of them, no people food and only dry food, but the dentist said even in animals, they get bad genes in the dental area!]

She did well with such a big surgery, and then she's on two medications with for the Congestive Heart Failure, everyday.
She seems to do a little better, for now, and so we just ENJOY EVERY MOMENT WE HAVE LEFT WITH HER! :heart: :heart: :heart:

She still loves car rides, and going on walks, very much.
And I can't believe she is so tolerant of the cats! :D
She really is very amazing. :w00t:

An old one of Malori and me together. ;)

[Sorry long, but hey, I've known this dog a LOOONG time! :lol: ]

~~~~~~~~~:rose:
[NOTE: I just wanted to say, in advance, how especially grateful for anyone's :+fav: I may receive for this image. :thanks::aww::rose: I am honoured that you would enjoy or think well enough of my work here, to :+fav: it. :nod: So I thank you :thanks: profusely, and from the bottom of my heart :heart: . And because I do realize time constraints all too well, I understand, if you are unable to also leave a comment. :aww: However, whichever you may do, [or even both! :omg: ] I genuinely appreciate it beyond measure. I need you to know this now, in case I'm not capable of doing individual thank-you's for :+fav:'s, which I've not been capable, or in case I cannot respond to each comment, either. Thanks for understanding. :thanks:
:love: And even if you just came to view! :eyes: I am also very HAPPY :D for this! :w00t: ]
She DOES deserve chocolate cake you are right!
But we just gave her two extra treats for her B-Day and told her she would have to pretend it was cake!
;)
She's no fool, but she'll just have to pretend.
The story is of course long, even though I only shared SOME highlights, BUT
it is because HER life has been loooong. ;)
Thank you Jocelyne! :heart:
Very long life for a dog, Tea, I hope she will make it for a while, you seem to love her so much! :heart:
BTW, not too much chocolate, my vet told me it wasn't good for cats and dogs. She will understand! :D
It is all my pleasure, Tea!
Happy Birthday Malori! :heart:
She's such a cute and pretty dog. :aww: She went through many things in her life, really an expressive story, a good thing, she has a family witch takes so good care of her! ..I also know Beagles and thier curiosity, I was going for walks with a Beagle from the local shelter, and it always was like, I turned my eyes away from him, just for five seconds, and he was eating something from the street or got his nose stuck in some trouble! :giggle:
I wish Malori the best! I hope she will have a really happy and long live with you to come!
...and keep your nose out of trouble! :D
Oh and yes, I'm glad you enjoyed her crazy story! I just told some highlights and it was STILL long- I guess cause her life has been so long! :lol:
Oh and about walking a Beagle, you describe it right! :nod:
That is exactly how it is. Sheesh! :faint:
I will pass on your message for Malori to keep her NOSE out of trouble. hee hee.
* EDIT: Also, I know that Beagles are sneaky and can do something right behind your back, they are great at getting over fences! They even have very quiet, yowling barks.. it's funny. :giggle:
Oh I KNOW! You're so right. I didn't even get into all of Malori's GREAT ESCAPE stories! :lol:
I could write a book about all of Malori's crazy antics!
Oh and yes, about their baying... but Malori has bayed a lot less over the course of her life than even most Beagles, which we always thought was strange. It was whenever a cat was walking across her back fence, and that's about it. And in the last 5 years we've never heard her do it at all. :shrug:
Haha, as i've seen they like to do that.. Mischeivous little guys. Hanna has already started stealing food behind my back when I leave, even for a few seconds.. gone! She was never so interested in eating food like that, they say Labs like to eat a lot though. :XD:
You should, I would read it! It could be titled " Malori's Witty Adventures". :giggle:
That's surprising to hear, does she make little whining or growling noises at all? She must just be a very quiet dog like mine, but when I first got Hanna she didn't make any noise for awhile. Then after awhile, she would bark at my friend and any other men, strangers that she saw even or if she heard something outside. Yet her bark was more of a "woo-woo" or hound type howl and is very soft- not really loud like some dogs. She doesn't whine or growl or anything like that, but will make little breathing noises that she wants attention and petted, it's funny though. :)
Malori looks like a happy dog, despite all that she has been through her extended life. :)
That is heartbreaking to hear of her health problems though, unfortunately aging comes with more care. It's amazing that you've had this dog for that long(14 years), she really is a true fighter and a longtime friend! I wish her the very best of living out the rest of her fulfilled life with you. :hug:
Thank you very much Heather! :hug:
What a nice comment. :aww:
Yes, it's really amazing that she's even survived her "9 Lives" considering what messes they were that she's gotten herself into!
But yes, it's been fortunate that I've now had TWO dogs in my adult life live past 14 years of age.
Canela, who past on a year ago just last month at 14 years and 4 months of kidney failure.
And well, Malori just made it past her 14 years, though she is now diagnosed with her Congestive heart failure, but you're right.
If they're going to live this long, they're going to be diagnosed with something, due to age. sigh...
But she's still so happy and waggy and loving to eat. So we keep on, until all of those are declined, and just enjoy each day we still have with her. :heart:
Thanks again for your comment! :D
Your very welcome and thank you. :hug:
I guess some dogs just have the will to carry on longer than others, yours is definitely one of them! Your very fortuitous to have had them. :)
I worry if my dog will outlast her lifetime, Labs are hit with many health issues that can come up later on, but right now she is in good health, going only 3 years old. She has many years ahead though.
A happy dog is a great sign, as long as she isn't suffering at all and getting around stress free. :love:
woah, surely she's got a lot of lives, can't believe a single dog can make so many mischief! but you must admit she's has a lot of energy, eating a cake in half a minute is for the guiness book... happy birthday Malori, and best wishes for all the times to come!
I know it, it's crazy, Malori is one crazy Beagle! :lol:
We've always said it in jest to her. We don't want her to think we're serious about that, in case it would hurt her feelings... ;)
She CAN have lots of energy, it's her WILL to be so curious and explore and get into trouble despite much training truly knowing her humans will not like what she's doing.
I was not exaggerating- half of a chocolate cake, 30 seconds- I learned my lesson, because really I am good at watching my then TWO dogs and now one dog and SIX cats... you must be diligent and vigilant!
It's like having kids when it comes to this sort of thing. :giggle:
A lot of Beagles are kind of known for getting themselves into trouble, it's sort of part of the breed.
Some are worse than others due to the stubbornness which is also part of the breed. :faint:
We have had one of those. But other than that, Malori mostly has liked to rest in between her tricks and antics and her love for walks and car rides. Lots of sleeping. :shrug:
Anyway, thanks for the great comment and good wishes. SOrry this got long! :ohmygod:
hahaha, believe me, I've seen things like the one of the cake! I used to have a german shepperd. When she was about one year old, my family decided to do for christmas caramel pines, with the green leaves, the snow, everything. Of course, hard work, hours doing it, and then, to the table, to dry. When we look again, the about 20 pines were reduced to 3... and the dog was healthy as ever, of course!
I thought you had 5 cats. I was always missing one, or you have a new "son"?
