Training Day K-9 Unit

Description

Real Heros...
Real heros, such as those trained "to serve and protect" undergo real training.
It takes more than a day, it takes many days,
and it takes returning to basics for maintenance training.

About The Photo...
When my brother and his family were visiting, I was taking them on a nature hike that actually begins just behind the BPD, where, on the other side of the chain link fence, two police officers and a police dog from the K-9 Unit, happened to be training!

I stopped in amazement, and between repeated sets or rounds, I asked if they would mind, if I took some photos, stating that I take the photos of the animals for The Humane Society, and photographing a service dog, would be of high interest to me-
because I didn't know if it would be okay to just stand there and start photographing without permission.

I think it was definitely the right thing to do. They very kindly gave me permission to take photos, and I thank them. :aww:

It was actually not easy at all. I had no control over the place, or the composition, as I had to photograph through a chain link fence. I also did not have that much time, because I did not want to interrupt or be distracting for any length of time.

I took a total of four photos, during the next set or round, and they were so kind to actually "pose" at the end, when I took the fourth and final shot. The police officers actually stopped with the dog holding in this position and looked at the camera with smiles, but in that unexpected moment, I zoomed out a bit to get more of all of them, and one of the links of the fence, though blurred, crossed in front.

Originally I was disappointed by this, as I thought it had been the best photo, if it had not been for that issue, but it's been pointed out by my family members who saw the originals from that day, that this one- one of the three shots of all of them truly "in action" was a better shot, because it's even more authentic. So, I have finally agreed. :aww:

Dedication...
This is dedicated to all service dogs, such as police dogs, fire fighter dogs, and military dogs, for having their lives on the line, alongside their human personnel counterparts, and to the men and women who train them, who also put their lives on the line, as well.

I also dedicate this to medical service dogs- dogs trained to assist those with medical issues that benefit from a trained K-9 companion, and to their trainers as well.

The service, protection, and help that all of these dogs give, as well as their trainers, is just outstanding work!

For me, it's the best song on the "Training Day" Soundtrack.

Amazing shot! I love to watch Police K-9 dogs do what they do best. I have aunt that works in North Carolina helping to train K-9 dogs but I have never had the privilege of watching her train. (:
