The Shelter ART Project by TeaPhotography The Shelter ART Project by TeaPhotography
This is long overdue, but I dedicate this image to my dear friend Pauline :iconkurios-kat: for her partnership on this project that was and always will be very near and dear to my heart. :heart:

It was lovingly deemed:
"The Shelter ART Project"
NOT to be confused with:
The Shelter Project
EXCEPT to say that this ART Project, which even had some left over, for a donation, was a DONATION of ART to the SAME SHELTER, which The Shelter Project: [link] ,
[link] , and
[link]
also has its portion proceeds donated to. :aww: :nod:

Last Summer, I was asked by the manager at the Shelter, where I volunteer with the animals, if I could donate my own art professionally framed to the Shelter, which was a relatively new facility and still had some space available on the walls.

While I had JUST fallen further into certain circumstances, I told the manager "YES" anyway, without explaining that I didn't know how I'd pull it off on the financial aspect of it. I had made a list of projects on dA at sometime after that, listing those that would have to wait indefinitely, due to my circumstances... but at some point after that I was contacted by my dear friend, who mentioned that she would like to sponsor the project!! :faint: :happycry: :heart:

Thus became this partnership of ART for The Shelter!!
Of course I did the research of cost, and other legwork involved, and it was my first attempt at actually doing "Professional Framing"- of which I think turned out pretty well, and I created some of the prints myself [the three 8x10's] and ordered two of the 11x14 from dA- all five of the prints turned out really nicely, and the images chosen can be found HERE: [link]

I kept Pauline :iconkurios-kat: in the loop all along the way as much as possible!
:aww: :rose:

Then I presented the whole project to The Shelter on 12-23-2010, which I wrote about in a Journal here on dA, due to the fact that this was and has been one amazing journey from beginning to end, which I will never ever forget! :aww: :rose: :heart:
Seeing these framed works on a section of the walls in the entry way of The Shelter is a humbling and wonderful thing. :aww:

Pauline was a true and wonderful partner, and not just cause of her sponsorship, but due to her encouragement, support, and amazingly kind friendship throughout the whole Project!
:boogie:
She's TRULY one AWESOME PERSON!
:iconflowerthnxplz: :iconflowerthnxplz: :iconflowerthnxplz:

And I really enjoy her work, too...
Here is a feature of her work!

Dear Pauline,
Thank you so much for everything. This project meant so much to me, but it could not have happened without out you! :aww:
I also appreciate your ongoing friendship! You're one amazing person. :hug: :heart:
Your Friend, Tea

~~~~~~~~~:rose:
[NOTE: I just wanted to say, in advance, how especially grateful for anyone's :+fav: I may receive for this image. :thanks::aww::rose: I am honoured that you would enjoy or think well enough of my work here, to :+fav: it. :nod: So I thank you :thanks: profusely, and from the bottom of my heart :heart: . And because I do realize time constraints all too well, I understand, if you are unable to also leave a comment. :aww: However, whichever you may do, [or even both! :omg: ] I genuinely appreciate it beyond measure. I need you to know this now, in case I'm not capable of doing individual thank-you's for :+fav:'s, which I've not been capable, or in case I cannot respond to each comment, either. Thanks for understanding. :thanks:
:love: And even if you just came to view! :eyes: I am also very HAPPY :D for this! :w00t: ]
Hi Sarah, glad you like them! :hug:
Didn't think it would happen, that it would be just one of those things that would end up being just "all talk" between the manager at the shelter and me, since I knew I couldn't actually be able to pull it off and didn't know when... ya know? But sometimes good things do happen. :aww:
I hope you know that your endless support of the Shelter, be it The Shelter Project, itself, or something like this Art Project that Pauline and I worked on together for the Shelter, means very very much to me. :aww:
It all benefits the animals in some kind of way, and that you are so supportive is great!
And thanks for telling Crista about me, I am glad to have met her. :hug:
Gorgeous idea! And though it's not to be confused with the Sh.P. itself, may I feature this piece in the project box on my main page?
I think it would be okay, Lin! :nod:
After all, I am going to feature Pauline as soon as I get a chance, with those who have purchased cards, in that box on my page, even though she didn't purchase cards, but her sponsorship of this artwork donation ALSO helped the Shelter, just like the purchase of the greeting cards from everyone also helped the shelter with the portion of the proceeds from each person. So, I do think it would be fine! :hug:
Thank you!! :rose:
Wow! Tea! this is just amazing! I can imagine the feelings you get, when you walk into the shelter and see your own art work on the walls! That's so cool! And, to know that it's actually helping the "residents" there, makes it even so much more special. And, the lady that's donated to make this all possible--:faint:--what a special soul! I know how fast expenses can mount with this kind of work, so, that's quite an undertaking. What a wonderful expression of love on her part. I'm so glad the two of you were able to find one another to make such an important project "work!"
Wishing you both continued success with this very worthwhile project! :heart: It would be amazing to have something similar to this in my own area, but, unfortunately, our shelters are no way near "ready" for art on their walls! :-(
Hi Mim and thanks so much!
Yes, well at first, I was an embarrassed wreck the first four weeks that I'd walk into the shelter... I walked waaay aroooound the section where they had displayed the work, and I couldn't look at them. :lol:
I felt really very shy!!
Especially when, in the first two weeks, I was bombarded by the employees there... the attention was way too much for me, believe me. :aww:
Yes, the artist here who was my partner in the project and sponsored it, is really an amazing person!
I thought that you knew Pauline *kurios-kat already!
:)
No?
Maybe not then. But you both would like each other, I think. :aww:
I'm not sure what you mean about the shelters there not being ready for artwork on their walls...
This shelter here was relatively new at the time- I guess still considered so, and the original one was very small and dark and really more like a pound and just could not carry the burden of the HUGE area that it is deemed to service- being a county shelter, and our county is GIGANTIC!!
So, they were able to build a MUCH BIGGER facility, and therefore because it was new, the walls were mostly bare and they were wanting to remedy that, and make it more "friendly" and "warm"- that was the idea.
And they had learned about me through word-of-mouth, and that's when the manager asked me about doing this for them... and the rest, as they say, is history. :)
I would think that other facilities have things up on their walls, whatever things they might be, even if it's just brochures, information, newspaper clippings, or snapshots.
But I don't know, as it is true that I've only been out to foster care facilities and that's a whole different type of system- you don't adopt straight from them, usually, so it's not really a public kind of place.
Anyway, so not sure what you mean by "ready".
Thanks so much for your wonderful comment! :hug:
Well, Tea, sadly, what I meant by "ready" is, our shelters in this area aren't in very good condition. The one closest to me, where I was going on almost a daily basis before I got Eddie, is nothing more than a very small building made out of cement blocks. There are no "finished" walls to hang anything on. The office area, is the same as the animals area. Cement block walls, and probably no bigger than what you'd expect from an outdoor restroom area at a park, if that big. As a matter of fact, that's what it used to be! There have been several attempts over the years, to try and spruce it up a bit, by getting new management, pleading with the county for more funds, trying to get more volunteers, but, nothing has helped, really. It seems to for a little while, but, then, always goes right back to the same old same old.
On the up side, though, we do have a newer shelter a little closer to me, that does seem to be doing things a little better, but, they are in a different county, so, different "politics," if you will. They have a much nicer facility, but, still not really a place to hang art. I may take a trip out there soon, to see if that could be possible, though.
It's worth a shot,anyway! :nod: :-)
I know me, too, love animals! I used to be much more of a dog person most of my whole life, and then it's such an interesting story about what happened with how I got involved with cats! :giggle:
But I owe it all to my dogs for allowing this to even happen! :heart:
I think you would love a kitten actually. I can really picture it. :aww:
Oh and I know I have your support, I have felt that, and it means SO much!
And if you do promote The Shelter Project, note me or something, so it doesn't take me forever to notice, cause sometimes I am lost forever on dA...
Of course, I would notify you when I promote you in my next feature journal.. most definitely.. no worries about that. Because I do too have to be reminded about different peoples features, I get lost too,..=P
Yeah, I could see myself with a little kitten (I love the orange kittens) or maybe a pitch black one, they are so cute. Don't they scratch all your furniture.. not that I have any right now except my bedroom furniture, but in general you have to buy them that big thing where they can actually scratch it.
I can't wait to live my own little life in my own little apartment.. so looking forward to it but it won't happen for a while, I know that.. oh well, I am a surviver,.. lol
:aww: Thanks, I only say that, cause sometimes I have found promotions about it, or features of my work on people's pages or journals, but they hadn't noted me about it, and then I feel SOOO super guilty about being late to see something sooo nice that they've done for me, and then I wonder what I have missed completely that I've never seen at all, and it makes me feel really badly about it. :nod:
Orange kitties rock! :w00t:
Of course, so do all black ones! :D
I have one of each of those kinds! :nod:
But then again, I have so many, that I likely have one of any kind you could think of, :giggle:
Yes, you want to have what I call "scritchers" for cats, which DOES help protect whatever furniture you do have, and it is also very good for their health, both physically regarding the health of their nails, and helps them regarding stretching, which they love and need to stretch naturally, and also it is very good for their health mentally, because cats get very nervous and anxious the way people do and it creates the physical need to scratch like that, which relieves stress, and it is great to have these scritch pads.
The most economical ones are corrugated cardboard, inexpensive and they last long. You can also get a small stoop, too that is wrapped in twine in the middle part for scratching and they can sit on the top part. THey love those.
I know a lot about cats, so careful, cause I could go on too long. ;)
Yes you are a survivor, and your situation will not always be what it is.
We have not had furniture for a while either...
How interesting!
Some in the bedroom but no livingroom furniture.
The pets have more than we do at the moment. ;)
Take good care and keep on surviving! :heart:
You are a sweetheart.. I would definitely notify you when I mention and promote your shelter project. First, I have to think of what to say, because taking all these meds, I am having trouble focusing,.. I have ADD too, :iconyay-plz: =P. I can't have a cat or a kitten anytime soon which is really sad.. remember, I had to give up my Micho, and cats are not allowed here either.. In the past I guess, when people moved out, they left their dogs and cats (and their urine and fecal) everywhere.. now, I have to suffer the consequences.. not fair but life is not fair either.. ANd we both keep surviving then.. Take good care of yourself.. I finally managed to do more artwork and posted 5 yesterday late afternoon.. I was so exhausted.. lol.. because I was pushing myself and trying to stay up and not in bed.. it was hard, but I did it..
