Katie Rose is our oldest cat, but she is not our first cat. She is our 3rd cat, after Jikan and Sha-Sha. She was named by my Grandma because she was originally my Grandma's cat. She will be 13 this May of 2011.
My Grandpa got her from a pound in Arizona when she was a 4 month old kitten. No one was interested in her, because she had no tail. They didn't understand that it was her BREED; she is a Manx, and a very beautiful and unique one at that.
She was the apple of my Grandma's eye ever since. My Grandma passed on, not too long after this, but HE adored Katie just as much, actually.
I always told my Grandma that if there ever came a situation where she needed me to take care of Katie, that I promised I would.
That time came sooner than anyone thought, as she ended up needing to go to assisted living by January of 2009.
People thought my promise was just talk- I live about 15 hours away by car, but I didn't see why that should matter. A promise was a promise, and Grandma was NOT happy with the other options found for her, and no one else in the family really likes cats so much, besides the two of us.
I called her to reassure her of that promise I'd made a long time ago, and we made a special trip out there to go pick up Katie. While she was so relieved, I know that she has missed Katie very much every day since.
Katie is one of the most unique cats I have EVER met. She is very cuddly on her terms! LOVES to be on your lap, [and on you at night, too!] but don't touch her or move her with your hands or she'll growl.
She's very sweet on the one hand, but having to adjust to living with other cats, has indeed been a HUGE adjustment, and I've been very proud of her progress. I get very defensive of her, especially when the others pick on her, after all SHE is THEIR elder, and that makes me upset. Plus I still really think of her as my Grandma's cat, and I really want to be sure she is treated the best possible.
She's very lovely, and will tell me what she wants, just by "talking" which is very eerie but cool. I love her voice. It's awesome. She's a wonderful cat, and I really DO wish my Grandma could have a cat still- ANY cat, since she loves them so much like I do, and I have so many.
For an older cat, she has remarkably healthy teeth and other senses, too, - such as she knows exactly what I tell her, when I tell her to go to a certain room or go get something or to come here, and this is beyond hearing! Very intelligent!
Guess what Katie thinks she sees...

[NOTE: I just wanted to say, in advance, how especially grateful for anyone's I may receive for this image. I am honoured that you would enjoy or think well enough of my work here, to it. So I thank you profusely, and from the bottom of my heart . And because I do realize time constraints all too well, I understand, if you are unable to also leave a comment. However, whichever you may do, [or even both! ] I genuinely appreciate it beyond measure. I need you to know this now, in case I'm not capable of doing individual thank-you's for 's, which I've not been capable, or in case I cannot respond to each comment, either. Thanks for understanding. And even if you just came to view! I am also very HAPPY for this! ]
