Getting Better With Age by TeaPhotography Getting Better With Age by TeaPhotography
Dedicated to my dear friend and sis Teresa :icontigles1artistry: for her BIRTHDAY... :blushes: which was April 28th... (thankfully she understands how bogged down I've been since I returned from my April trip)...
:cake:

Teresa also definitely gets the concept of deserving to be celebrated more than just on one day of a BIRTHDAY! I know she does!!! :la:
Teresa absolutely ROCKS, and she is one complete joy, pleasure, and blessing to know, since ever I've met her on dA, which seems like a long time ago by now.
She is generous to a fault, wonderfully dynamic, inspirational, fabulous, and I just love her!

Presenting the ever-spirited Jill, at The South Coast Humane Society  who is indeed available for adoption. She's just been in the area's newspapers last Saturday, and she's on our Petfinder.com and FB.

Jill is almost all white, with just a few cute grey markings, Her eyes are tantalizingly green! Most interesting is that she is one of our older cats, though I can't remember her age. She is spirited, which I personally adore, but if she's approached gently, she really is just fine, rubbing on you, enjoying the attention greatly! She would just like a calm understanding human companion or two, to relax with. She's been through a lot, including a de-clawing... and she IS extra sensitive about her feet.

We have more older cats now than we used to because word of our new "hospice program" has gotten out. It has a really cute name, but I can't recall it right now.  Most animal facilities turn away cats, and even dogs, (though it mostly pertains to cats) once they are past a certain age, considering them unadoptable- or they may euthanize the ones they already have for space. We take them if we have space at the time, or put them on a waiting list, as we would for any cat, and we keep them for adoption, or to live out their lives with us.
And, they get special treatment of course! :D

See a couple of Teresa's works!

She really is so beautiful! Older cats have a lot to give for someone who can be patient and gentle. It's so sad that many are no longer considered adoptable. I hope that special someone will adopt her! :iconkittyhopeplz:

I don't understand how people can be so cruel and declaw cats (or other animals). If they want an animal they should deal with everything special about it and when you have a cat and play with it, it's natural that oyu get some scratches on you... I personally don't mind that at all! I love playing with cats and the scratches is just something that happens.

This picture is lovely! I love how majestic and dignified she looks! And her eyes are simply beautiful!

Lucia, this is something I have never understood either. I don't know if they would do it, if they truly understood that declawing a cat is equivalent to removing a human's fingers past the first knuckles!!
But perhaps they still would... it bothers me that there are vets that would actually do this...

You said it PERFECTLY! If they want an animal, they should deal with and WELCOME everything special (and even challenging) about it!

A lot of people's reasons for doing this, is NOT because of the scratches on themselves, but I have heard it's because they don't like the cats scratching up their furniture...

Well, I have LOTS to say about that.

1. Are you seriously telling me that NON-living things are more important than living things?

2. There are several ways to greatly minimize damage to furniture, if willing to work on this rather than chop off finger-tips!
Such as, including a couple of scratching pads in the room or around the house where the cat/s like to scratch the most. THEY LOVE THEM!!!

3. Sometimes spraying a natural substance of herbs, something called "Bitter Yuck" will deter them, though I didn't have as much luck with that.

4. Also learning how to clip you own cats nails- which i like to do, or paying to have the vet do them regularly...
this does minimimize damage to inside furnishing, and to human skin, and to each other if more than one cat is in the house.

But to totally declaw a cat also removes most all of natural defenses should the cat get outside! :hmm:

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful comment!

I'm not just thinking about the natural defenses, but doesn't get the cat less skilled, when it comes to climbing and such? It just sounds to me, that you can't let your cat outside without it's claws anymore. It can't defend itself anymore it can't move like it wants to, that's just so cruel.. :(

I don't get how people can do that... you also don't have a child and then remove it's vocal chords, because you don't like it crying!
