A Happy Daisy by TeaPhotography A Happy Daisy by TeaPhotography
Dedicated to J-L :iconshirimasen: for his BIRTHDAY which was Aug. 27th [Yes, it's belated but I think he'll understand!]. :cake:

John-Luke has been a really great friend to me since meeting him on dA, in various ways, such as supporting The Shelter Project in every way possible, and all of his super work at #Unframed-Nature.

This is Daisy, who had been up for adoption at The South Coast Humane Society
and was first photographed there, with this photo HERE: [link]
which was put in the newpapers as a "Pet-of-the-Week" and also up onto PETFINDER.COM and FB.

Well she was finally adopted...
BY US!

You can see more info. about her at the above link, but she had been very badly abused and while pregnant on a one foot rope outside!

Because of this, she is still afraid of men, but has already come such a long way with this.

Most of her work lies in leash training, and even though she is almost 2 years old, every single thing is brand new for her. We all have a lot of work to do, but it will be worth it.

She is such a good sweet dog, who wants nothing more than kind attention and affection!

Plus she loves our cats, and they... kind of sort of tolerate her. ;)

She also loves our nearly 16 year old Beagle, Malori, though we are not sure what Malori thinks.

We've also seen video of her puppies and also of her giving birth to them at the humane society. They were all adopted as soon as possible.

But WE have the DAISY!

She is most likely a German Shepherd x Boxer and/or Lab.
[She's pure sweetheart! :D ]

There's been lots of speculation!

A feature of J-L's wonderful work:

Dear J-L,
I hope your B-DAY was great and that you'll have a
great year ahead- many new things! I wish you well.
Your Friend, Tea

[ :note: NOTE: Thank you, in advance, for any :+fav:'s I may receive for this image. :thanks: :aww: :rose: I am honoured and grateful that anyone would think well enough to :+fav: it. So thank you from the bottom of my heart  . I understand if you don't have time to comment, but thank you for any kind comments, too. :aww:
It's important to know this NOW, as I may NOT be able to do individual thank-you's for :+fav:'s, or in case I cannot respond to each comment, either. Thanks for understanding. :thanks:
And, if you just came to view, I appreciate that, too.

Happy doggy. I like her smile. Hm... Maybe there's some Carolina Dog mixed in. I read they are perfect family dogs. Anyways, it's very kind and friendly to give a poor dog a new home, and she seems very relaxed and full of joy with you.

Yes, since posting this, I've had a couple others suggest she might be Carolina Dog.
She had been a great addition to our family, and she is really happy nowadays. :D

I really do appreciate it so much Cecelia.

There are so very many sad stories, of course, and they are all bothersome to me, no doubt, but something about Daisy's story, of which I've left out much of the horrible details, and of which there is proof and witnesses,
which really kept me thinking on many nights...

But she is such a trooper, so brave and courageous and ready for lots of love and affection...
she's already come a long way and I do think she's going to do great with us!
Thank you so much again.

Dogs are amazing that they have the capacity to love people again after being treated so horribly.Animal abuse is so heartbreaking! I am so glad she is able to overcome this and have you to take care of her and give her the love she deserves!:iconwubplz:

The thing about likely most dogs, as far as I know, is that they really DO want to love, and they want affection, attention, and kindness... in fact they crave all that so much, they are willing to put aside their past, for the possibility that there is someone else that will treat them the way they deserve...

[i say "put aside" because I don't really think they forget.. just like people don't really forget what abuses they've endured either... ]

Thanks again, I think she's going to be just fine, ... well, she already is, but do really well with us, in the long run.

You're right about dogs craving attention and affection. Nothing makes a dog happier than getting praise for doing something right!I'm sure the abuse is not forgotten,I guess they learn that some people don't mean them harm but they have to learn to trust which must be a long process. I think cats may be a little slower to respond to other people when they have been abused but it's possible for a good outcome as you have showed again and again.I admire the work you do for these animals, it takes a special person to be able to make the kind of progress you make.:iconlvplz::iconcatdanceplz:

That's nice that you were able to adopt her. :)

She definitely appears to have Lab in there, not sure about GSD, but maybe some other Shepherd and/or possibly Carolina Dog?.. she reminds me of that breed in particular.

Yes, we have not had a new dog in a very very long time, and still we really weren't planning on it...
But, Daisy is soooo very special!
And she babies our small 16 year old Beagle, it's really cute. :aww:

Anyway, thanks for you input on the breeds, as I thought I might get some more input about her on dA...
we've gotten lots from our own humane society where we adopted her, and around here in general. :D

Don't know the Carolina Breed, but I can look up images!

The director at the humane society DID say possibly could be Australian Shepherd as far as "which" shepherd, but we've just gone to saying German Shepherd at this point...

But it's fun to see what others DO think, that's for sure!

We think she's a pure bred sweetheart. ;)

Carolina Dog was the first breed to come to mind. They look like this: [link] - they're a bit rare though, even in the US where they originated. Who knows though? You'll find out what characteristics she has. :)

:omg:
I've already done some research on some images and of course written info., and we just can't believe it, but we think this might be the closest breed suggested for her, ever!

Some do have bends in the ears as I was previously describing, too!
However, as this photo does NOT show it, her tail does curl up into that perfect fish-hook, sometimes so much it is touching her back!

I loved what I read about the breed, too, amazing stuff!

And so far, her characteristic seem practically spot-on!

So... what's a Carolina Dog doing in Oregon! :giggle:

:wow:
Well after that image, I can see why that was the first breed to come to mind! Thanks for the link! :D
I will look for more, too...
Interesting info. you already gave me about the breed's origination.

The tips of Daisy's ears bend over just a bit near the tops when she has them straight up, which is often, now that she is happy and so interested in everything!

Yes, that is and will be the fun part... as we discover more characteristics!
